A horror movie for Guillermo del Toro: after his last blockbuster, Pacific Rim, the great Mexican director returns to the genre which made him famous a few years ago with The Devil’s Backbone and Hellboy.The protagonist, Mia Wasikowska, plays the role of a tormented, distressed girl who moves with her new husband Thomas (Tom Hiddleston) into a big, mysterious and derelict house. However, with the newlyweds lives also the strange Lucille (Jessica Chastain), Thomas’ sister, along with many scary supernatural beings. A not-to-miss for all goth fans, it’s a film set in an unsettling Victorian atmosphere, with a catchy storyline that will surely thrill and intrigue any ghost enthusiast. Del Toro puts together a fascinating environment, with threatening, obscure set design and rich, intense colors. The result is as scary as surprising, also thanks to a great cast, where the young Wasikowska stands out as one of the most interesting actresses of today.
