David Mamet

Regista, sceneggiatore, drammaturgo statunitense. Nato David Alan Mamet, inizia la carriera come autore teatrale, riscuotendo grande successo grazie alle commedie The Duck Variations, Sexual Perversity in Chicago e American Buffalo. Nel 1981 scrive la sceneggiatura de Il postino suona sempre due volte (The Postman Always Rings Twice) di Bob Rafelson con Jack Nicholson e Jessica Lange, e nel 1982 quella de Il verdetto (The Verdict) di Sidney Lumet, per cui viene candidato all'Oscar; segue lo script di The Untouchables – Gli intoccabili (The Untouchables, 1987) di Brian De Palma. Ottiene la candidatura anche per Sesso & potere (Wag the Dog, 1997) di Barry Levinson con Robert De Niro e Dustin Hoffman. Esordisce dietro la macchina da presa nel 1987 con La casa dei giochi (House of Games); altri suoi film da regista sono Homicide (1991) e Hollywood, Vermont (State and Main, 2000).
